Frequently Asked Questions

Is BMI accurate for athletes?

BMI is a screening tool based only on height and weight, so it overestimates body fat in muscular athletes and underestimates it in older adults who've lost muscle. Use it as a starting point, not a definitive measure.

How is the calorie estimate calculated?

The calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, which estimates Basal Metabolic Rate from weight, height, age, and sex. It then multiplies by an activity factor (sedentary 1.2, light 1.375, moderate 1.55, active 1.725, very active 1.9) to estimate daily maintenance calories.

What's the recommended daily water intake?

The European Food Safety Authority suggests 2.5L/day for men and 2.0L/day for women from all drinks and food. The calculator uses the common rule of 35ml per kg of body weight, adjusted upward for exercise.

Are these tools a substitute for medical advice?

No. The calculators are general informational tools. For diagnosis, treatment, or personalized health guidance, consult a licensed healthcare provider.
