Frequently Asked Questions
How much smaller can a file get?
It depends on the picture and the quality you choose. Photos with lots of fine detail compress less than simple graphics, but a drop from 100 to 70 quality often cuts the size by more than half.
Will lowering quality make my picture look worse?
At very low settings you may notice blocky patches or color banding. Settings between 60 and 85 usually keep the picture looking clean while still shrinking the file.
Why is PNG output not shrinking much?
PNG uses lossless compression, so there is no quality slider to trade against size. For a smaller file, export as JPG or WebP instead.
Can I compress a picture I already resized?
Yes. Resize it first with the resizer tool, then bring the result here to compress it further.
Is there a limit to how many pictures I can compress?
