What Is the Ponderal Index?
The Ponderal Index (PI), also known as Rohrer's Index, is calculated as weight divided by height cubed. It's considered more accurate than BMI for very tall or very short individuals because it accounts for the three-dimensional nature of body mass distribution.
Formula: PI = Weight (kg) / Height (m)³
PI is also commonly used in neonatal medicine to assess newborn birth weight relative to gestational age.
