What This Tool Does

Photos taken with a phone held sideways, or scanned pages fed in wrong, often need to be turned before they look correct. This tool spins the picture in 90 degree steps or to any exact angle you set, and redraws the canvas so the rotated result is what gets saved.

Does rotating affect picture quality?

A 90, 180, or 270 degree turn does not lose any detail, since each pixel just moves to a new grid position. Other angles involve some pixel resampling, similar to resizing, which can slightly soften fine detail.

Why does the canvas size change after rotating?

At angles other than 0, 90, 180, or 270 degrees, a rotated rectangle needs a larger bounding box to fit without cutting off corners, so the canvas expands to hold the whole picture.

Will rotating fill the empty corners with a color?

The corners left empty by a non-90-degree rotation are transparent for PNG or WebP output, or white for JPG output.

Can I rotate by an exact number like 15 degrees?

Yes, the angle slider lets you pick any whole-degree value from -180 to 180.

Can I flip my image as well as rotate it?

This tool handles rotation only. For a horizontal or vertical mirror flip, use the separate Image Flip tool, either before or after rotating.

Is my photo uploaded to a server?

No. Rotation happens entirely in your browser using the Canvas API. The file is never sent anywhere, and nothing is kept once you close or navigate away from the page.
